7 ways to maintain a good Akhlaq in hard times.
"Hardships and ease are part of life. It is indispensable to display good moral conduct and character during hard times, just as we do in times of comfort."
But to our fortune, we have the Qur’an and the Seerah for guidance in dealing with hard times with good moral and ethical conduct, as Believing in Allah’s plan during hardship is a core aspect of Iman. Islam teaches that every trial occurs by Allah’s wisdom and decree, even when its purpose is not immediately clear.
1) Being thankful and showing gratitude is an act of faith and firm belief in Allah: Surah Ash-Sharh (94:5)
2) Showing patience can be difficult, but it is highly rewarding. The Prophet ﷺ reminded believers that every situation is beneficial when met with faith: “How wonderful is the affair of the believer! There is good for him in everything… If hardship befalls him, he is patient, and that is good for him.” Sahih Muslim (2999).
3)When an individual understands that with every hardship a sin is erased, it brings light into darkness and acts as psychological relief and motivation. The Prophet ﷺ said: “No fatigue, illness, anxiety, sorrow, harm, or distress befalls a Muslim—even a thorn that pricks him—except that Allah expiates some of his sins because of it.” (Sahih Muslim-2573).
4) Through Dhikr, we can ease our troubles, become more emotionally stable, and act responsibly with good akhlaq.” “Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find peace.” Surah Ar-Ra‘d (13:28) come through Dhikr, especially during times of hardship, anxiety, or emotional distress.
5) The true strength is Controlling your Anger, And Showing kindness. The Prophet ﷺ said: “The strong man is not the one who overcomes others, but the one who controls himself when angry.” Sahih al-Bukhari (6114), Sahih Muslim (2609).
6) Believing in Allah’s plan during hardship nurtures inner peace, resilience, and good akhlaq. ::لَا يُكَلِّفُ ٱللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا ۚ “Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear.” Surah Al-Baqarah (2:286)
7) Hardships are not just mere suffering, Moral Excellence Through them Brings Reward. Good akhlaq displayed during hardship earns immense reward and raises a believer’s status. The Prophet ﷺ said: “The heaviest thing on the scale on the Day of Judgment is good character." Sunan at-Tirmidhi (2002).
CONCLUSION
Islam presents hardship not as a punishment, but as a means of spiritual growth and moral refinement. Through gratitude, patience, remembrance of Allah, control over anger, and firm trust in Allah’s decree, a believer transforms trials into opportunities for reward and closeness to Allah. Upholding good akhlaq during times of difficulty reflects true faith and inner strength, as taught by the Qur’an and exemplified by the Prophet ﷺ and His Companions, When hardships are met with sincerity and righteous conduct, they become a source of purification, resilience, and everlasting reward in the Hereafter.
